With all of the romance that Italy can inspire and the handsome Josh Duhamel starring this movie is made for fans of the rom-com genre. Usually this group doesn’t include boyfriends who are motivated to see films of this nature just for their partners however, When in Rome has two things going for it that may have dates everywhere looking forward to seeing it.
Kristen Bell, Funny Girl
The naturally beautiful Kristen Bell not only carries the lead but steals the screen with gorgeous looks and natural humour. The new ‘it-girl’ is cropping up more and more in television and films and it is easy to see why. Kristen is able to carry off comedic scenes with an inborn talent for everything from slap-stick physical comedy to unflinching deadpans.
The stand out difference between this and many other romantic comedies is that it is actually laugh out loud funny. Though the theme of romance carries heavily through the film it seems to lay more to the comedy side of the rom-com scale. Unfortunately the film is the tried and true formula for a romance and the story becomes predictable. Nonetheless viewers still left smiling and in the end the movie charms audiences by being genuinely heart warming. Couples will leave the theatre with an equal appreciation for When in Rome.
When in Rome
When Beth (Kristen Bell) rushes to Rome in the midst of her hectic schedule to attend her sister’s wedding she never expects to meet the man of her dreams. In fact the jaded New Yorker really expects that she’ll never fall head over heals for anyone let alone Nick (Josh Duhamel), the best man who she has only known for mere moments. When she sees her love interest with a hot-blooded Italian Beth laughs in the face of amore literally, splashing around in the Fountain of Love.
By a stroke of magic romantics who had thrown wishing coins into the fountain start to fall madly in love with Beth. Suddenly the woman who felt she would never have passionate love in her life has more than she can handle. As increasingly weird suitors come out of the woodwork Beth strains to undo the weaves that have men doing ever more grandiose things to get her attention and prove their love. Swept off her feet by Nick she must find out if he is under the same spell or if his affections are true.
